I hear this question a lot!
First of all let's start with WHY you want to go to the trouble of integrating one into you home/space....remembering ourselves of this acts as a really good motivator to bite the bullet :
-
Personalization: A gallery wall allows you to showcase your personal style and interests by displaying a collection of art or photographs that reflect your taste and personality.
-
Visual Interest: A well-curated gallery wall can add visual interest and create a focal point in a room. By arranging different sizes, shapes, and colors of frames, you can create a dynamic and eye-catching display.
-
Space Maximization: A gallery wall is a great way to maximize wall space in a room, especially if you have a lot of small or medium-sized pieces that might not make as much impact on their own.
-
Flexibility: A gallery wall is flexible and can be easily updated or changed as your taste or collection evolves. You can add or remove pieces as desired, or switch out frames to create a new look.
-
Sentimental Value: A gallery wall can also be a way to display sentimental items, such as family photographs or artwork created by loved ones, in a way that honors and celebrates their importance.
First choose a theme: Start by deciding on a theme for your gallery wall. This could be anything from family photos to travel memories or a collection of art prints. Having a cohesive theme will make your gallery wall look more put-together and intentional. For an easy cohesive theme, go to one of my collections and shop different sized prints. Or let me help you visualise your wall - just send a photo and some overall dimensions and I can help plan it out :-)
Secondly choose your frames: Choose frames that complement the theme of your gallery wall. You can mix and match frame styles and sizes, or keep them uniform for a more streamlined look.
Plan your layout: Before hanging anything on the wall, plan out your layout on the floor. Arrange your frames in different configurations until you find the layout that works best for you. You can use paper templates or painters tape to mark out the layout on the wall before hanging your frames.
Mix up your artwork: Don't be afraid to mix up your artwork on your gallery wall. You can include a variety of mediums, such as paintings, prints, photographs, and even three-dimensional objects. Just make sure they all work together and complement each other.
Create balance: When hanging your frames, create balance by spacing them out evenly and using a mix of large and small frames. You can also create balance by choosing a focal point, such as a larger piece of art, and arranging the other frames around it.
Add some interest: To add some interest to your gallery wall, consider including some unexpected elements, such as a mirror or a sculptural piece. This will make your gallery wall stand out and feel more personalized.
Voila! Hang those frames: Once you have your layout planned out, it's time to start hanging your frames. Use a level to make sure your frames are straight, and use picture-hanging hardware
